St Blanes pupils had every reason to celebrate this week, when their P7 children won ‘The First Ministers Reading Challenge’.
As part of a focused effort to improve reading attainment in Scotland, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon launched a national competition throughout Scotland where all P4- P7 in Scotland were invited to compete.
With an incredible response from schools, teachers and children all over Scotland, the awards ceremony was held yesterday, Wednesday 14th June 2017 in the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh. Two thousand finalists were invited to attend.
It’s with utmost pride, we can exclusively announce our very own St Blane’s Primary School won the overall Primary 7 category!
The delighted children won the accolade with a book they had written in connection with their inclusion and anti discrimination work. The result is another indicator of the potential of Blantyre’s children and a real feelgood story, something to celebrate.
Principal teacher Anne O’Donnelly told Blantyre Telegraph, “We’re very proud of our P7 pupils.”. Well done to all involved!
