Proudly representing The Haven at this year’s Kiltwalk will be Blantyre nurse Donna Martin.
The Haven, a registered charity which provides support to people affected by a range of life limiting illness and to their family members and carers and supports people across the whole of North and South Lanarkshire through its centres in Blantyre, Wishaw and Forth, is aiming to take their biggest team ever to the Glasgow Kiltwalk and nurse Donna Martin couldn’t be happier to be a part of this.
Joining around 100 Team Haven walkers, Haven nurse Donna feels it is important to represent the charity, as she knows first-hand the true benefits of the funds The Haven are able to raise by taking part in one of Scotland’s highest profile charity events, the Kiltwalk.
Donna, who has been a Haven nurse for three year’s, works as part of the multidisciplinary team to offera programme of support designed to help individuals cope with the physical, emotional and practical aspects of their illness and to enable them to face the future positively and with hope. Fundraising events like the Kiltwalk are vital to helping The Haven sustain these services.
This will be Donna’s fourth Kiltwalk for The Haven and she looks forward to completing the Glasgow Kiltwalk on Sunday 28thApril.
She shares: “I believe in The Haven and I recognise that working for a local charity in this economic climate is an ongoing challenge and so I want to do what I can to help. The money raised will allow us to continue supporting our clients here in Lanarkshire. The Kiltwalk itself is a joy to do, there is a great atmosphere, everyone is friendly and you get a great sense of achievement when you have completed the walk.”
With three walk options, The Wee Wander (approx 6 miles), The Big Stroll (approx 15 miles) and The Mighty Stride (approx 23 miles), there is a Kiltwalk suitable for almost everyone and The Haven are appealing to people from across Lanarkshire to get involved and support their local charity.
