Badger Rail Crossings

Network Rail has announced that during the last year, it has been working on dozens of sites to protect badgers from rail lines, trains and equipment.

With environmental protection of the species duly considered, several badger crossing points and setts have been constructed, including some at Blantyre. (pictured)

Railway embankments make ideal homes for badgers. Not usually trafficked by humans, a thriving ecology has taken up residence in the off limit strips of land and badgers can be found on railway land throughout central Scotland.

A spokesperson for Network Rail added, “It is part of Network Rail’s considerate approach to the protecting its lineside and to supporting wildlife and habitats on and around our infrastructure and another example of how we have and will continue to promote biodiversity and the wider environment through our work.””
