‘Starlink’ taking shape

A $10Billion plan to provide high speed internet made available to everybody on Planet Earth is fast taking shape.

Space X Entrepreneur Elon Musk’s “Starlink” programme is rapidly being deployed putting thousands of Satellites into space to allow Internet accessibility no matter where you are on Earth!

The futuristic plan means internet access without having to lay the fibre cables and infrastructure on the ground.

As of 3 September 2020, SpaceX has launched 715 Starlink satellites. They plan to launch up to 60 more per Falcon 9 flight, with launches as often as every two weeks in 2020. In total, nearly 12,000 satellites are planned to be deployed, with a possible later extension to 42,000.

At present, early tests have shown speeds ranged from 36mbs to 100mbps, speeds that the company hopes to improve upon.

Elon has addressed environmental issues about potential space debris by equipping each satellite with a propulsion system allowing it to safely burn up in orbit after its 5 year shelf life.

Starlink hopes to attract a global residential and business customer bases when it rolls out and goes live in late 2021.
