Vaccine Coming On Tuesday

Some positive news today. The Scottish Government has announced that the first vaccines against Covid will be administered in Scotland commencing this Tuesday, 8th Dec – just 6 days from now.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has said the vaccine – which offers up to 95% protection against Covid-19 illness – is safe to roll out, and immunisations for people in priority groups could start within days.

The UK government has already ordered 40 million doses – enough to vaccinate 20 million people, with two shots each. First to get the vaccine will be frontline health workers, the very elderly and those most vulnerable.

About 800,000 initial doses of the vaccine are expected to be available in the UK next week, with an 8.2% population share being made available for Scotland.

The vaccination will NOT be mandatory and the first minister stressed that the government was “not planning sanctions” for those who decide not to get it.

Have your say. What do you make of today’s news?
