Glasgow Road Resurfacing

More than £10million is to be spent improving roads and roads infrastructure across South Lanarkshire in the next year and two streets in Blantyre are included.

Almost £7.5million will be spent on resurfacing programmes with a further £2.6million to be spent on patching, preventative maintenance, footways, structures, traffic signals, lighting and investment with North Lanarkshire Council at Horsley Brae.

Among the major routes being resurfaced in the Hamilton area during 2021/22 are Almada Street, Glasgow Road, Blantyre and Northway, Main Street Uddingston and Lanark Road Larkhall.

In the Clydesdale area, major routes to be resurfaced include the A72 at Crossford, the A706 Lanark to Forth, the A72 Kirkfieldbank Brae and the A70 Glenbuck.

In the East Kilbride area, Calderwood Road, Kirk Street and Townhead Street in Strathaven are among the roads being resurfaced.

Mill Street in Rutherglen will also benefit from substantial investment in carriageway resurfacing.

A full list of the programme for 2021/22 can be found on the council website.

The council’s Head of Roads and Transportation Services, Gordon Mackay, said: “This is a significant investment in improving roads and roads infrastructure across the area during the next financial year.

“Commuters and other road users alike will benefit from these improvements.

“Our team carry out detailed analysis of the condition of our roads and following this we then prioritise the order in which the work needs done which enables us to come up with our annual programme.

“It is likely that road users will have noticed a change in the condition of some roads as the winter months have not been kind to many surfaces, but we believe this programme will help improve many roads across South Lanarkshire.”

Anyone who wishes to report a pothole or the condition of a road can do so on the road and lighting fault page on the council website.
