Nice one Daniel Rooney

Here’s a great story you may have heard about today.

Local Singer Daniel Rooney from Cambuslang was singing in a hotel bar in Glasgow, when agents of pop group Take That approached him and asked if he wanted to play to a packed audience in the Hydro instead!

The condition? He would have to go on stage as Take That’s support act within the hour! Needless to say he was shocked and surprised. The situation arose as Olly Murs was unable to go on stage as Take That’s support act.

Scottish presenter Ross King had been watching Daniel play in the corner of the bar at the Radisson Hotel opposite the arena. Impressed with his vocals, King recommended to his friend and Take That frontman Gary Barlow that Rooney could fill the slot, despite the lads not knowing him at all.

Barlow praised Daniel for stepping up to the plate, writing “this young man saved the day thank you” on his Instagram story with a photo of the musician. Fellow band member Mark Owen also gave a “huge thanks” to Daniel for helping them out at the show, which is part of their This Life tour.

Incredibly, last night Daniel went back to finishing his gig in the hotel, after the Hydro event playing to around 14,000 take that fans! What a night! No bad for a lad from Cambuslang!
