Former Scotland, Manchester United, and Manchester City striker Denis Law, the only Scottish player to win the Ballon d’Or, has passed away at the age of 84.
Known affectionately as ‘The King’ and ‘The Lawman,’ Law spent 11 remarkable years at Old Trafford, scoring 237 goals in 404 appearances—a tally that places him third in United’s all-time scoring list, behind Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton.
Born in Aberdeen, Law began his football journey with Huddersfield Town before moving to Italy for a spell with Torino. Over his illustrious career, he was capped 55 times for Scotland, scoring 30 goals, a record that still makes him Scotland’s joint top scorer of all time.
He broke the British transfer fee record three times during his career, a testament to his exceptional talent and impact on the game.
In 2021, Law revealed he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.
A statement from his family read: “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of our father Denis Law’s passing. He fought a brave battle but is now at peace.”
