Parcel delivery firms including Royal Mail, Evri and DPD could soon face new Government regulations.
Facing backlash from customers, the firms are being tasked to find better ways to track and ensure parcels are delivered to the correct address or customer.
A new petition submitted to Parliament is calling for tougher rules to ensure customers know exactly where their parcels have been delivered.
The proposal wants courier companies to provide more detailed delivery information whenever a parcel is dropped off. Alongside the usual proof-of-delivery photograph, firms would be required to supply the precise GPS location of the package, together with a map showing the exact spot to the nearest 1m where it was left.
Supporters believe the change could make it much easier for customers to track down parcels that have been left in unexpected places, particularly when delivery photographs provide little indication of the actual location.
If introduced, the legislation would place greater responsibility on courier companies to provide clear and accurate information about the final location of every delivery.

I have to commend DHL here in Texas.
I applied to renew my UK passport which entailed sending my old one and other supporting documents to UK.
I received text updates from Passport Office as each step in the process was completed.
Notified that package was sent to DHL who then texted me where package was.
When “out for delivery” notice was sent to me, I got a map with exactly where the DHL truck was. Exactly which street and how many stops before my delivery. As each stop was completed, that was immediately updated.
From UK Passport Office in UK to delivery to my house here in Texas was 2 1/2 days.
2 things here. First, a UK government department with efficiency and second is a superb service by DHL.
