Seen it all now. Two thieves in High Blantyre decided it was worth putting heat on themselves just to ‘liberate some cake’!
Around 2am, in the early hours of Sunday 11th August 2024, two men broke into the Van of ‘Cakes by Rebecca’ in Blantyre Industrial Estate and helped themselves to trays of cakes.
Aside from the damage to the van, Rebecca told us her loss was just £20 of ingredients, the thieves making off with around 40 portions of cake in quite possibly the area of Blantyre Industrial with the most CCTV cameras.
Business owner Rebecca Henderson asked to put out a message to the sweet toothed thieves saying, “If you can bring my radio back you nicked out my van. It’s no the 1970s! I’ll give you your keys you dropped!“
Rebecca added “They look like they were drunk and were seen carrying the cakes down the industrial estate, struggling as they were heavy. They sat the cakes down a few times to get some rest. They left an Hyundai car key on the floor of my van which must’ve fallen out of their pocket.”
Of course theft is theft. A Police Scotland spokesperson issued a statement after the business reported the crime: “About 9.30am on Sunday, 11 August, 2024, we received a report of two vehicles having been broken into in South Avenue, Blantyre. Enquiries are ongoing.”
