Westend Premises Update

Here’s another update about the ongoing renovations at the Westend Building, at the corner of Glasgow Road and Bardykes Road.

If you recall, in recent days, we advised the forthcoming shop in the former Westend Bar, is now going to be a Premier Store, (rather than a NISA).

External cladding works have been pushing on this week, and as the black cladding of the new shopfront facade gets installed, speculation has arisen online if this is the finished look. It’s definitely not! Speaking to ‘Premier Westend’ earlier today, we learned that as well as the new signage, as of this weekend, the windows still need to be cut out, so the end result will look different. The business is waiting for their new windows to arrive before starting that activity. Unfortunately, the old windows did not suit the layout.

In some exclusive news, Premier added, “We’re actually transforming the former pub in to 2 units. One will be a Premier store and other will be a high end dessert and coffee shop.”

Inside renovations are extensive, stripping the building which dates from the 1880s, right back to the walls. Gutting out the inside completely, rewired and plumbed and with new walls, to make the whole fabric of the building much more structurally sound, given the bad condition its in just now.

Premier have already built a fair sized car park at the rear, much larger than the previous space which was there in recent decades, and with investment to provide a much needed convenience shop for this part of Blantyre, it appears Blantyre’s going to get a new coffee shop too!

We’ll be keeping you all updated as work progresses, including when the units plan on opening.
