It’s official – the transformation of the future Universal United Kingdom Resort is gathering pace, with excavators and other heavy machinery now hard at work on-site in Bedfordshire, England.
The arrival of large-scale earthmoving equipment marks one of the biggest visible milestones yet as preparation begins for what will become Europe’s first Universal-branded theme park and resort. While rollercoasters and attractions are still a few years away, the focus now is on stripping topsoil, reshaping the landscape, installing drainage and utilities, and preparing the ground for the massive construction project ahead.
The multi-billion-pound development is expected to create around 20,000 construction jobs before opening its gates, with thousands more permanent jobs in hospitality, entertainment and tourism once completed. The resort is also forecast to attract around 8.5 million visitors annually, making it one of the UK’s biggest visitor attractions.
For now, visitors won’t see castles, movie sets or towering rollercoasters rising from the ground just yet, but the sight of excavators moving across the former brickworks site is a clear sign that one of the UK’s most ambitious leisure developments is becoming a reality.
With a planned opening in 2031, the countdown has truly begun.
