The Festive dove release memorial in Blantyre was a huge success!!
Acts of Dove organised a memorial dove release service, so that we could all come together to pay tribute and remember all of the community’s lost loved ones over the festive period.
Karen at Acts of Dove told us, “We understand how difficult the holidays can be when you’ve lost someone close to your heart and we wanted to take a moment to remember them in a special way.”
“David Livingstone Birthplace opened their doors to us a very busy time of year, everyone was well looked after by their staff and their baking was delicious. “
“A small service was conducted by Donna Ball Celebrant who spoke about how bittersweet Christmas can be when we are missing loved ones from our table. She went on to explain the symbolism of our beautiful white Doves and what releasing them on the day meant to us all.”
A slideshow of photographs was shown throughout, displaying photographs that families had sent of their loved ones.
The group then moved outside where families were invited to come forward to hold a ribbon attached to the doves basket. The ribbons were pulled to allow the doves to fly free after Karen read a short poem that she had written especially for the day.
Tam the piper played the bagpipes for the gathering as the doves soared into the sky.
It was standing room only very well attended and it was a moving and emotional morning. The support everyone showed for each other was overwhelming.
Karen continued, “I am extremely grateful to everyone that came along, and for supporting my small local business. I work so hard to ensure we remember lost loved ones in a tasteful and special way, I think my emotion clearly showed on the day.
The Baby Loss Retreat Charity are our selected charity to support. The memorial itself was completely free for anyone to attend but thanks to their donations we raised £217 for Baby Loss Retreat, which is amazing! “
