Update on Flats Renovation

This month’s update on the ongoing renovation of flats at Stonefield Road and Camelon Crescent.

In terms of progress, over the last weeks, the remainder of the scaffolding has gone up and subcontractors have been on site coring holes externally at all levels to extract the old insulation and pump in new high performance insulation.

In addition, structural assessment of the concrete balconies has been undertaken pulling together a definitive repair strategy. New tiling and windows are being installed.

Most noticeably is the new, fresh, roughcast rendering on the outside of the buildings.

In preparation of the EWI installation, all external cables / lights / satellite dishes have been temporarily removed off the walls.

Window surveys (on all floors) have also been carried out and priming of metal balcony railings taking place.

GMG contractors are responsible for the implementation and management of safety. The scaffolds have all been tested and certified. Access consists of ladders which, when not in use, are fitted with ladder guards over them padlocked into place, to prevent anyone climbing them. Each ladder guard also has clear ‘DO NOT ENTER’ signage. Heras fencing surrounds the first block to have EWI installed, however, this has to allow for residents to come in and out of their flats, so cannot completely close the area off.

This work was needing to be done. Local residents will soon see the transformation of these blocks into energy-efficient buildings with a renewed, really attractive external appearance.
