New Council Homes Main Street, High Blantyre

Following the recent planning approval on the proposed new houses at the corner of Auchinraith Road and Main Street, High Blantyre, SLC have confirmed the building of these houses WILL go ahead.

The homes will be built on the current vacant land at High Blantyre, where the Kirkton Care Home once stood. The former care home, built in the late 1960’s was demolished in October and November last year.

A new development of 12 council homes will proceed though we have no further details beyond this post at this time. The land was transferred to Housing Dept last year and was included in the Council’s Strategic Housing Improvement Plan. 12 much needed new council homes for social rent are planned, funded by the Scottish Government. 2 of these will be for special needs.

The Homes will be semi-detached and of 2 , 3 and 4 bedroom design. Each house will have its own electric vehicle charging point and accessed from the north via Nursery Place. No vehicle access will be from Auchinraith Road or Main Street. Construction date and tenancy arrangements are presently unknown.

Stone has been imported for some of the groundworks and part of the tree clearance work has already been done.
