South Lanarkshire Council has approved a 6% increase in council tax, effective from April 1, 2025.
This decision was made during a recent council meeting earlier in the week, where the budget for the upcoming fiscal year was discussed.
The increase, though beyond the percentage of inflation is one of the lowest in any council in Scotland. Critics however, have pointed out other ‘stealth’ charges, such as the £45 garden waste fee recently introduced has meant the real rise in terms of financial impact to South Lanarkshire residents is actually beyond 6%.
The increase should make a difference. It aims to address financial challenges faced by the council, including rising costs and the need to maintain essential services. Residents are advised to review their council tax bills to understand the impact of this change on their household budgets.
