Nature put on a beautiful show recently as a mother duck taught her tiny ducklings a lesson in courage and persistence.
This was the scene at the River Calder, at Milheugh Falls. Faced with a tricky waterfall and strong upstream current, the little ducklings struggled at first—slipping back, chirping loudly, and hesitating at the edge. But mum was having none of it. She swam up, turned back, and showed them exactly how it’s done—one powerful flap at a time.
One by one, the ducklings followed. Some paddled, some flapped, some tumbled… but eventually, they all made it. A touching reminder that with the right guidance and a little determination, even the toughest obstacles can be overcome.
