It’s the end of an era. The controversial decision to close Blantyre Library has been taken by the council and there’s now a firm date. In a statement online today, SLLC said, “Blantyre Library will close its doors on Saturday, 30th August 2025 as we prepare to relocate to our newly refurbished library within Blantyre Leisure Centre, opening in September 2025.’
They added, “We’re excited to welcome you to a modern, refreshed space that brings together library services and leisure facilities in one convenient location.
Please note: Any books currently on loan can be returned to any library across South Lanarkshire, so feel free to drop them off wherever is most convenient for you.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you in our new location soon!”
It’s our understanding the new library will be significantly downsized without the event space it previously had. Its unknown what will happen to the building on Glasgow Road at this time.
