Blantyre’s pool and gym are now closed to the public and activities relocated to other nearby gyms and leisure centre for the next four weeks.
SLLC said on social media, “This first phase includes maintenance works and some services will return in approximately four weeks. The gym and studio will remain closed to allow transformational works to begin as part of our upgrades project [and] we will keep our website updated on our progress.”
SLLC chief executive Nick Lansdell said: “We are thrilled to launch this significant investment in the refurbishment and upgrading of our gyms and studios – these improvements are a vital part of our commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive and modern facilities.”
The Leisure Centre is also going through a change of use in some parts of the building. Blantyre’s library on Glasgow Road is closing and moving to smaller sized location within the Sports centre itself.
When complete, the new library will have a mixture of staffed hours and self-service periods. However before then, construction work still needs to take place which will see walls removed, new glazed screens added, a new doorway and windows installed to create a suitable area, which will then be fitted and decorated in keeping with a library facility. The new library area will be accessible at all times that the leisure centre is open.
The Leisure Centre is expected to reopen around 23rd September.
