Jupiter Shines in the December Sky

Jupiter is putting on a brilliant show this December! Rising in the eastern sky and glowing as one of the brightest objects of the night, the planet can be seen with the naked eye.

From Scotland, you can spot it a couple of hours after sunset, appearing low in the east before climbing higher through the evening. By late evening and around midnight, it sits much clearer and steadier, giving you the best view.

Tonight, it’s quite clear, so easy to spot. Look out for a lovely photo opportunity and a great moment for sky-watchers. No telescope is needed: Jupiter appears as a bright, steady “star”.

Find a dark spot with an open view eastwards, let your eyes adjust, and enjoy one of winter’s simplest celestial highlights.
