Over 50 police officers have taken on a huge beat – 22.7 miles to be exact, as they took on the challenging yet highly popular Glasgow Kiltwalk Mighty Stride on Sunday 26th April.
Inspector Alan Burrell, from G Division of Police Scotland, rallied a huge team to help raise vital funds for Maggie’s Glasgow the cancer charity providing specialist cancer support to people at what can be a very challenging time. After a brief phone call with the Maggie’s Glasgow fundraising team, Inspector Alan Burrell was hopeful that he could recruit a team of 30 officers. However, his incredible powers of persuasion, combined with the very many officers who have been personally affected by cancer, meant he was able to confirm that 54 kind-hearted officers would be donning their kilts for charity.
The team raised an incredible £18,582 from taking part in the Kiltwalk, along with bake sales, sweepstakes and football cards – all in support of Maggie’s Glasgow.
It is clear to see that the team were well supported by friends, family and colleagues, with hundreds of donations and good luck wishes on their Just Giving fundraising page. There was also excellent camaraderie amongst the police officers, all determined to exceed the fundraising target which had been set. Alan Burrell said “Our officers mental health and wellbeing is paramount to us, so taking part in the Kiltwalk, gave us all a great focus and was a fantastic way to bring us all together.” Maggie’s Glasgow are also keen to continue to support Police Scotland, with the various workshops offered to support with their mental health and wellbeing through their Cancer in the Workplace, Grief and Bereavement and Menopause workshops.
Some of the team recently visited the Glasgow centre, where saw first-hand the transformational support which Maggie’s professional teams provide to people with cancer and their friends and families. The Maggie’s team also took this opportunity to celebrate their incredible fundraising which is enough to fund the centre for more a week – a truly wonderful contribution.
