25 Years Ago Today – Remembering 9/11

It was one of those rare, life moments when most people remember where they were. On the morning of 11 September 2001, hijacked passenger aircraft were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. A fourth aircraft, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers and crew fought back against the hijackers.

In total, 2,977 victims lost their lives, not including the 19 hijackers. Among those killed were hundreds of firefighters, police officers and other emergency personnel who rushed towards danger while thousands of others desperately tried to escape.

Twenty-five years may have passed, but the images and stories from that terrible day remain deeply etched in the memories of millions around the world. Today, we remember every innocent life taken, those who went to work or boarded a flight that morning and never returned home, and the families whose lives were changed forever.

We also remember the extraordinary courage of the emergency services and ordinary people who helped complete strangers during unimaginable circumstances.

Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when you first heard the news on 11 September 2001?

🕯️ Remembering the 2,977 lives lost. 25 years on, they are not forgotten.
