Local Teen Tyler Meechan Celebrates Double UK Championship Success

A talented 13-year-old St Ogilvie’s pupil is celebrating an incredible run of success on the Taekwon-Do competition circuit after securing three major championship titles in just two weekends.

Second-year pupil Tyler Meechan was crowned Northern Ireland Special Technique Champion last weekend following a fantastic performance at the Northern Ireland Championships.

There was little time to rest, however, as Tyler was straight back into competition action the following weekend at the UK Championships — where she produced another outstanding set of performances.

Competing across multiple disciplines, Tyler demonstrated her versatility by being crowned UK Champion in both Patterns and Sparring, adding two further gold medals and national titles to an already memorable few weeks.

At just 13 years old, Tyler continues to show tremendous dedication to her sport. Behind the medals are countless hours of training, preparation and commitment as she works to continually develop her technique, fitness and confidence.

Her recent results are particularly impressive because they showcase her ability across very different aspects of Taekwon-Do. Patterns require precision, technical ability, control and concentration, while sparring demands speed, timing, fitness and the ability to perform under pressure. Special Technique provides yet another challenge, testing explosive power, accuracy and athletic ability.

With three championship titles secured in the space of just over a week, Tyler is already looking towards her next major goal.

Her sights are firmly set on earning the opportunity to represent Scotland ITF in February 2027 at the Flanders Fields tournament in Belgium.

For the young athlete, the prospect of pulling on the Scotland colours and competing internationally would mark another exciting milestone in what is already proving to be a fantastic sporting journey.

For now, Tyler can enjoy an exceptional achievement: Northern Ireland Special Technique Champion and two-time UK Champion in Patterns and Sparring — all at just 13 years old.

With her determination, commitment to training and love of competition, there is plenty more for the St Ogilvie’s pupil to work towards as she continues her Taekwon-Do journey.
