Edinburgh’s Princes Street Pavement Set to Reopen Before New Year

Good news for shoppers and visitors heading to Edinburgh! A large section of pavement outside the fire-damaged former Debenhams store on Princes Street could finally reopen by the end of December.

The pavement has been closed since a devastating fire on 9 July, forcing pedestrians onto a temporary walkway occupying part of the road.

Specialist engineers have been working to stabilise the historic building and make the surrounding area safe.

With Princes Street’s traffic and tram services already back to normal, reopening the pavement would make it easier for shoppers and tourists to navigate the busy city centre, particularly during the festive shopping season.

The future of the former department store remains uncertain.
