Ek Expressway Overnight Road Closures

Those travelling on EK Expressway Wednesday and Thursday nights should be aware of road closures as essential surfacing works take place.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are undertaking essential VRS upgrades on the A725 eastbound at Craighead from Wednesday 7th February until Thursday 7th March 2024, between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.

This scheme will benefit around 45,000 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will be carried out using overnight road closures and a signed diversion will be in operation. We thank road users for their patience and co-operation while this essential work takes place.

A Lane 1 closure of the A725 eastbound carriageway will be required as well as a full closure of both the eastbound on-slip road from the A724(Glasgow Road) and the eastbound off-slip to Whistleberry Road. The signed diversion will operate as follows:

Traffic wishing to join the eastbound A725 at Glasgow Road (A724 onslip) will be directed south on A724 Glasgow Road, taking the second exit onto B7012 Whistleberry Road, turning left onto A725 E\B Whistleberry onslip where the diversion ends

A725 eastbound traffic wishing to exit at the Whistleberry offslip will continue eastbound to Bellshill roundabout where they will be directed around the roundabout to head westbound on the A725 and continue to westbound Whistleberry offslip with the diversion ending onto B7012 Whistleberry Road

Please be advised that Lane 2 on the A725 eastbound carriageway will remain open with a reduced speed limit of 40mph. Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable. A free Road Work Alerts service is available from this website:
