Over 500 properties in nearby Hamilton are without water this morning, due to multiple burst water mains.
Scottish Water have issued an update as of 7.50am today, Saturday 17th August 2024 stating:
“We are isolating a burst 12” water main on Wellhall Road this morning that will affect around 500 properties in the area. Plans for tankering water into the mains and the supply of bottled water are being worked on. The tankering will maintain supplies in the majority of the area. This burst caused some localised flooding last night, and traffic management was put in place, and will remain in place to allow the repairs to be carried out safely.
We are also in the process of completing repairs to a burst 6″ water main on Westwood Crescent to allow us to begin to restore normal supplies over the morning. Bottled water was delivered to affected customers’ properties earlier this morning. Traffic management is also in place here to allow us to compete the repairs safely.
These repairs follow the completion of 2 other burst located in the surrounding area yesterday that we have repaired, and restored normal supplies. Our ongoing investigations found that a critical valve had failed, leading to a pressure increase in the area, resulting in these burst. That valve has been fixed and is being monitored.
Traffic management for the repair works will remain in place until the repairs are completed safely. Please consider an alternative route if at all possible, in order to avoid potential delays to your journey.
We apologise for any inconvenience this incident has caused and thank all customers for their patience during multiple repairs.”
