Discoloured Water

We’ve received quite a number of messages today about discoloured water in areas nearby to Blantyre, particularly in Burnbank, Whitehill, and Udston. We promised to follow this up tonight.

Here’s Scottish Water’s update as of tonight. Their next update will be at 1am.

“Our teams are experiencing unforeseen difficulties with the repair of the burst 6inch main opposite 12 Burnbank Centre, Hamilton ML3 0NQ.  We are extending the area of our excavation to pinpoint the exact location of the damage on this section of water main, however due to difficult ground conditions and various utility cables this is taking longer than first expected.

Our teams are working hard to complete these repairs and return normal water supplies to customers. We now estimate to have our repair complete and begin to restore normal water supplies for 00:30hrs, Sunday 20th July.

Customers in Udston and Douglas park area may experience low pressure or no water until we have complete our repair and returned our network to its normal set-up.

At 19:00hrs this evening our teams isolated the burst to minimise potential impact to customers and whilst we prepared to commence with our repairs.

Due to high flows from the burst this has resulted in disruption to the network causing discoloured water to customer’s supply. If you experience brown water, we advise to allow your cold-water kitchen tap to run at a reduced pressure until this runs clear. Do not run any other taps or use any water appliances whilst doing so and follow the same process with any other taps affected once the water is clear from your cold-water kitchen tap.

If you experience white water, this is air trapped in the supply and will clear within 24 to 48 hours.
As operations are ongoing, customers may experience fluctuating periods of low pressure, and/or discoloured water. Our operatives are working to help clear the supply for customers.

Due to the location of this burst there are 2-way lights outside 12 Burnbank centre, Hamilton to ensure the safety of all road users while our teams carry out the emergency repair and reinstatement of the burst water main.

Our priority service customers are being contacted in the affected areas to understand what support they may require. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this issue and thank affected customers for their continued patience and understanding whilst we worked to resolve the matter.”
