New Blantyre LIDL

This month’s construction update for the new Blantyre LIDL.

The existing store at the junction of Whistleberry Road and Glasgow Road was demolished before the summer and a new bigger and better store is being built. As of mid October, the superstructure build is coming along nicely. Wall insulation panels and cladding are being placed to the exterior of the new store with walls overall well progressed.

Work to the roof is nearly complete, with cladding and large expansive solar arrays now in place.

Contractors ‘Forum Contracts’ have already completed substructure works, including foundations, drainage and floor slab and are working now on the inside. The new walls give a great insight into how the store will look when finished. It has a new slightly different footprint and is of course significantly taller, and taking shape slowly is the new entrance which has frontage on to Glasgow Road.

Outside, utility companies are now working to upgrade LV cables to the location. As well as being eco friendly, the new interior will have wider aisles and a dedicated bakery area. Improvements to the carpark along with the installation of EV chargers are also planned..

All continuing to adhere to programme, the new store has a planned re-opening in January 2025.
