Blantyre LIDL Steelwork

The corner of Whistlberry Road and Glasgow Road is looking a little different this week. Work to replace the LIDL superstore in Blantyre continues at a pace with the completion of the steel superstructure.

Contractors ‘Forum Contracts’ now move on to insulating and cladding the new supermarket. What is sure to become a popular shopping destination for Blantyre is quickly taking shape with the new store rising from the ground and this frame now giving a sense of scale for the new shop.

The existing store was demolished earlier this year and a new bigger and better store is currently being built.

This new store has a slightly different, larger footprint with frontage on to Glasgow Road and plans for a more prominent entrance and signage. As well as being eco friendly, inside the store will have wider aisles and a dedicated bakery area. Improvements to the carpark along with the installation of EV chargers are also underway.

We’ve been following progress of the build. All being to programme, the new store has a planned re-opening in January 2025. Have your say. Are YOU looking forward to the new store opening?
