Blantyre LIDL update

The corner of Whistlberry Road and Glasgow Road is looking a little different this month as work to replace the LIDL superstore in Blantyre continues with the completion of the roof. We’ve been following progress of the build throughout the summer. Here’s this month’s update.

Contractors ‘Forum Contracts’ now move on to walls and cladding at the new supermarket. What is sure to become a popular shopping destination for Blantyre is quickly taking shape with the build now giving a sense of scale.

The existing store was demolished earlier this year and a new bigger and better store is currently being built. Jobs were not lost in this process, but redeployed elsewhere.

This new store has a slightly different, larger and taller footprint with frontage on to Glasgow Road and is going to have a more prominent illuminated entrance and signage. As well as being eco friendly, inside the store will have wider aisles and a dedicated bakery area. Improvements to the carpark along with the installation of EV chargers are also underway.

All being to programme, the new store has a planned re-opening in January 2025.
