Blantyre Leisure Centre

The gym equipment, broken and tired in the Sports Centre is useless. There, we said it!

After many complaints and messages over the last 2 months about the broken gym equipment at Blantyre Leisure Centre, it’s time for a wake up call for South Lanarkshire Council. Hard working residents are parting with money every month for memberships (which lets face it aren’t cheap in the first place!), and deserve better than being confronted by useless or machinery which is out of order.

We’ve received messages in recent weeks pleading for campaigns to be started to get better equipment, but frankly, in the first instance, it’s up to the council to remedy this. With the darker nights, the gym is becoming busier and now as of this week, there’s 5 treadmills out of order and no signs of being replaced.

One angry resident told Blantyre Telegraph, “I run on the treadmill for safety and comfort at this time of year. There’s only 4 out of 9 treadmills working in the centre. I went to the gym last night and couldn’t get on any cardio equipment due to everyone using something else other than the treadmills as there are not enough treadmills in a good working order. I may as well have went home!”

Whilst not all readers make use of this gym, those who do deserve better. How can the council expect new memberships or even existing ones to be maintained when equipment is broken. Moving to private local gyms, isn’t always a solution or even an option for some families if their kids are tied to family memberships to access other fitness classes and the pools.

Please, if authorities and Councillors are reading this, can this topic be raised within Council chambers. Have your say. Does this impact you? What more can be done? What’s the priority?
