TACT Hall Survey – Please Share

An important repost. Have you completed the TACT Hall survey yet? We’re all quick to show concerns about our local halls closing, but here’s an actual chance to do something about it! Residents in Blantyre are being asked for their views on a potential community takeover of one of their local halls.

The proposal is part of a bid by the Thornhill and Coatshill Tenants Association (TACT) management committee to upgrade the facility and expand its use by taking over the running of the hall and community gardens/healthy park from South Lanarkshire Council on a long-term lease.

The TACT Hall opened 35 years ago in 1989, with most of the original management committee still in place today. It closed temporarily during COVID and for essential repair work. Since re-opening, the hall has struggled to regain its role at the heart of the community as a popular venue for local activities and events.

The TACT Hall management committee is hoping that a community asset transfer, via a long-term lease, will breathe new life into the building.

Elizabeth Mulvanny, Chair of TACT Hall management committee is asking the local community to get on board with revitalizing the venue. She said, “If the use of the hall continues to diminish, the council can’t justify investing in it – that’s the push factor. The pull factor is that we as a management committee with a long-term lease would have access to more funding opportunities to improve the facilities that’s not available to the council.”

The swing park and MUGA pitch are not included in the proposal and would remain the responsibility of South Lanarkshire Council.

“As a starting point, we need to canvas the views of local communities and secure their support for our proposal to make it a viable option. So, we need as many people as possible to take part in our survey.”  The survey is now open with hard copy questionnaires available from TACT Hall or by calling or texting 07551 439622. Return envelopes will be provided.     https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TACTHALL

Elizabeth added, “We also need to increase the number of lets and bookings, as well as the number of volunteers to help with the general running of the hall and the community gardens/healthy park. If you’re interested in either of these – please do get in touch.”
