Counterfeit £20 Notes: Stay Alert

The public have been urged to remain vigilant after police received reports of counterfeit banknotes in circulation.

The warning follows multiple incidents of fake £20 notes being used on Barra and making their way to the mainland.

These counterfeit notes feature a portrait of King Charles III and are marked as Bank of England currency. They closely resemble genuine notes in both appearance and texture, and due to their plastic composition, they do not react to counterfeit detection pens.

All the fake notes share the same unique identifier: BB81 324259.
