South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture have today announced they’re embarking on a major upgrade of gyms and studios across South Lanarkshire from July 2025 including Blantyre!
They told us, “Our upgraded fitness facilities will help you improve every rep, step, and stretch – perfect for seasoned gym users chasing personal bests and beginners looking for a smoother first experience in the gym. The most up to date information is below, please continue to check back here for updates.
We’re starting with Biggar Sports Centre and Strathaven Leisure Centre, with further improvements rolling out at 11 more sites throughout the year.
A redesign project of Larkhall Leisure Centre is currently underway, and the full list of centres that will be upgraded in the initial rollout are:

- John Wright Sports Centre
- Carluke Leisure Centre
- Eastfield Lifestyles
- Lanark Lifestyles
- Dollan Aqua Centre
- Blantyre Leisure Centre
- Coalburn Leisure Complex
- Hamilton Water Palace
- Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill
- Willie Waddell Sports and Community Centre
- Fairhill Lifestyles
This exciting project, funded by South Lanarkshire Council’s Transformation Fund, aims to enhance the fitness experience for all our customers by providing modernised facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, and refreshed studio spaces.
The upgrades will culminate in March 2026 with the completion of works at Fairhill Lifestyles in Hamilton.
