We’ve been looking at changes coming in 2026. This time, something to be mindful of if you plan on holidaying to Europe. There are new rules for UK citizens travelling to Europe.
The new Entry Exit System (EES) means non-EU citizens, including Scots, need to register at EU borders by scanning their passport….. and having their fingerprints and photograph taken. Unlike all other citizens in the EU, it means Brits will need to queue to have these requirements processed on your first visit to the European mainland.
With changes already started to be rolled out, at the moment there are no charges for entering Europe. However, there will soon also be a new cost for people visiting EU countries that is expected to be introduced at the end of 2026.
The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is scheduled to be introduced in the final quarter of next year. The fee is set at 20 euros per person, which is around £17, for any adult under the age of 70.
