International Autism Pride Day was marked by the council with the flying of the autism pride flag.
The flag is flying over Council headquarters to celebrate neurodiversity and recognise the contribution autistic people make to communities across South Lanarkshire.
This year it was raised by Sophie Davidson, with the assistance of Ramon Hutchingson, Co-ordinator of South Lanarkshire’s Autism Resources Co-ordination Hub (ARCH).
This year is also significant locally as it marks the tenth anniversary of the opening of ARCH, which provides information, advice and support for autistic people, their families and professionals.
Professor Soumen Sengupta, Chief Officer for Health and Social Care, said: “We are proud to mark International Autism Pride Day and to recognise the contribution autistic people make in all aspects of community and civic life.
“We will continue to promote greater understanding and visibility, and support an approach where services and communities respond appropriately to people’s needs.”
