Football has lost one of its greatest icons with the sad passing of Kevin Keegan, who has died at the age of 75 following a battle with cancer.
A true legend of the game, Keegan inspired millions with his incredible passion, determination and infectious enthusiasm. During a glittering playing career, he won three First Division titles, the European Cup, the FA Cup and two UEFA Cups with Liverpool before making history at Hamburg, where he claimed back-to-back Ballon d’Or awards in 1978 and 1979.
He proudly represented England 63 times, captaining his country and later returning as national team manager. At Newcastle United, both as a player and manager, “King Kev” became a beloved figure, leading the club through one of the most exciting eras in its history. His attacking style of football, emotional connection with supporters and unforgettable personality ensured he would always hold a special place in the hearts of football fans everywhere.
Tributes have poured in from clubs, former teammates, players and supporters across the world, all remembering a man whose influence stretched far beyond the football pitch. He will be remembered not only for his remarkable achievements, but also for the warmth, humility and joy he brought to the beautiful game.
