Operation Overlap Clampdown on E-scooters and E-bikes

On 22 October, Cambuslang CPT officers seized multiple E-Scooters as part of Operation Overlap in a bid to remove e-scooters from roads and pavements, parks and other public spaces. The riders were reported to the Procurator Fiscal for numerous driving offences.

These scooters and e-bikes may seem like a fun way to get around but parents and teenagers should know the rules before buying, including the risk of driving them in places not permitted.

E-scooters
Private land only, with the landowner’s permission
Strictly NOT allowed on roads, pavements, parks or other public spaces

E-bikes
Must be an Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC):
No more than 15.5mph
No more than 250 watts
No β€œtwist and go” throttle, pedal power only

Riders must be over 14

According to Police, Illegal use means your vehicle will be seized, and you could face a fine or points on your licence.

If a child is stopped by police driving an e-scooter or e-bike on a road or pavement, the vehicle will be seized and any fines or points will go to their parent or guardian.
