CCTV in Taxis

A trial fitting CCTV in taxis and private hire vehicles in South Lanarkshire will soon go ahead.

On Tuesday 19 March, South Lanarkshire Council’s licensing committee narrowly agreed by 11 votes to 9 to start the trial which will see CCTV installed in taxis in Hamilton and additionally, in both taxis and private hire vehicles in East Kilbride.

Following a request from Police Scotland, the recommendation is being made for imagery only and sound recording will be excluded. Information from the trial will be gathered and used to assess effectiveness before deciding if it should be adopted throughout the rest of Lanarkshire.

Have your say. Do you mind CCTV being in a taxi recording you? Does it make drivers safer? Will it work?
