Western Desert Recce Group (WDRG) are looking to expand a bit now that restrictions are relaxing.
Based in Blantyre Industrial Estate, they’re looking at the following areas for the group. They told us expansion plans include
1, Starting up a modelling club, builders of plastic kit models, dioramas and other layouts we can use for displays at our premises in Blantyre.(perhaps tie in with a local youth or cadet group on this) and making use of our premises to work in.
2, Setting up a local WW2 Home Front History Research Group, focusing in and around Blantyre, especially the Anti-Aircraft and Searchlight batteries that surrounded Glasgow and outlying areas.
3, Forming a local ‘Men’s Shed’ group – “Old Sodjers and Codgers Repair Shop” with aim of doing projects and DIY work, ultimately to sell products to help group funds.
4, Still searching for new members who want to help with vintage vehicle restoration.
5. We will also be looking for the assistance of someone who can paint scenery for some of the backdrops we are proposing to put up inside our building, e.g. desert scenes, building internals etc.
If anyone can help or wanting to join us please contact me at gary@wdrg.org or on 07850 796605
