Milheugh Tree Planting

A Blantyre organisation has marked their centenary by planting trees at the Calder.

The 1st High Blantyre Brownies and their families were excited last Sunday 28th January, to plant many trees to mark their 100th year of the Blantyre Brownie pack.

Under supervision and with permission from SLC Countryside Ranger, Abi Boyd, the children and their families were busy planting up 120 new trees. New Rowan, hazel and apple trees were planted as part of the overall Milheugh Local Nature Reserve. The project was part of the Council’s targets to combat climate change.

A spokesperson for Blantyre Brownies told Blantyre Telegraph, “The brownies officially had their 100 year anniversary on 27th April 2023 with a special service with this planting ceremony a fitting way to end their long celebrations. We’re told they hope to plant a timecapsule in the next few weeks too.”

How lovely to see, especially after reading recently about some storm damage and fallen trees in this area. To see new trees being planted for future generations is marvellous to see.

Well done to everyone involved in a wonderful achievement and to all of the children for earning a planting badge too! Special thanks to Abi for organising the council funded event.
