Phase 1 Work on Main Street outside Blantyre Old Parish Church at High Blantyre is now complete with the closure lifted and road back open again this evening.
However, the last week has only been Phase 1, with an equally disruptive Phase 2 about to start on Monday coming.
Phase 2 will see Main Street fully closed off for another 5 days near Lomond View Flats from the junction of Douglas Street with the road closed all the way down eastwards towards Nairn Street junction near the shops. Necessary full width carriageway surfacing will be taking place. This phase will take place from Monday 25 March to Friday 29 March for resurfacing works with works lifted by Easter Friday.
This will impact some businesses on Main Street and again, with only local access being maintained for residents. Some residents without driveways may choose to park in the High Blantyre Park Car Park or across the road in the Carpark near June Stewart Centre. Bus routes will be affected on similar diversions as last week.
Diversion will be place via Hunthill Road, Stonefield Crescent, Stonefield Road, Glasgow Road, Auchinraith Road, Main Street and vice versa.
Works are deemed necessary, representing a considerable investment for the area. Please be aware, surrounding streets are likely to be busier.
