Main Street Road Closure Ph 1

Our Supporters have recently been hearing about considerable disruption coming in March to High Blantyre Main Street, as phased road closures are scheduled for full carriageway surfacing works.

Works will take place in 2 phases, the first noted below.

Phase 1: Main Street will be fully closed from Monday 18th March 2024 until Friday 22nd March between Craigmuir Road and Douglas Street (the stretch in front of Blantyre Old Parish church and pit monument) for resurfacing works.

This will significantly affect residents particularly in Greenhall Village and any traffic coming from EK direction, West of the Craigmuir Road closure. Diversions will be in place up Hamilton Road, Stoneymeadow Road, A725 East Kilbride Expressway, A725 Douglas Street off slip, Douglas Street, (Douglas Street, B758 Roundabout A725 on slip, A725 East Kilbride Expressway, Whirlies Roundabout, Stoneymeadow Road for return).

The diversion for Hunthill Road and Main Street traffic is via Hunthill Road, Stonefield Crescent/Road, Glasgow Road, Auchinraith Road, Main Street, Blantyre and vice versa.

We’ve enquired to the council about local access being maintained for Craigmuir Road residents, local businesses and access to the Church. We’ll post Phase 2 separately shortly.
