An article, which we hope South Lanarkshire Council is reading.
Unlike SLC, North Lanarkshire Council’s leadership has announced plans to reverse the proposed cuts to primary school bus routes set for 2025. This decision means that families living at least one mile away from their child’s school will continue to be eligible for council-provided transportation.
Councillor Jim Logue, the leader of the Labour administration at North Lanarkshire Council, made the announcement on Tuesday morning following a fierce backlash from constituents worried about the welfare and safety of their children.
Currently, families residing a mile or more from the school are eligible for council transport, and this will remain unchanged.
Previously, the council had intended to tighten eligibility to the legal limit, which would have meant that starting in August 2025, only families living more than two miles away would qualify for transportation assistance.
