Festive Travel Delays

Strong winds continue to disrupt travel across parts of the UK as millions prepare for Christmas journeys.

Heathrow Airport reported the cancellation of approximately 100 flights on Sunday, urging passengers to check with their airlines before heading to the airport.

Adverse weather conditions have also caused cancellations of some ferry services, road closures for high-sided vehicles, and delays on rail networks.

Yellow weather warnings for wind remain in effect until 21:00 GMT, covering Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and northern and western England.

The Met Office forecasts winds of 50-60mph on Sunday, with gusts reaching up to 70mph in exposed coastal and hilly areas. A peak gust of 82mph was recorded on Saturday in South Uist, located in the Western Isles.
