Storm Bram brings flooding and travel disruption to Lanarkshire

Trains, flights and ferries have been cancelled, and thousands of people are without power as Storm Bram sweeps across the UK, bringing heavy rain, powerful winds and unusually mild temperatures.

Amber wind warnings – indicating a potential risk to life – have been issued for parts of Northern Ireland and northern Scotland, where gusts could reach up to 90mph (145km/h). Wider yellow wind warnings cover Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and much of northern and south-west England.

Here in Lanarkshire local roads are flooded, and several trees have come down, like this one pictured in Greenhills, East Kilbride. The sliprroad at Auchinraith Roundabout at High Blantyre has been closed and there are numerous fences down. Some ridges and tiles from homes have fallen too.

24-hour call centre on 0800 242024 for immediate dangers (blocking roads, life/property risk) or during office hours (Mon-Thu 8:45am-4:45pm, Fri 8:45am-4:15pm) at 0303 123 1020 for less urgent issues.
