Crossbasket Castle in High Blantyre was the stunning landmark which hosted the grand start of the 3rd Drive to Maggie’s, as 40 classic, prestige and sports cars set off in convoy through the Borders and north of England. Along the way, drivers stopped at iconic venues, met celebrity supporters – and even had a Q&A with Lanark motorsport legend Jimmy McRae.
Since 2021, the event has raised an incredible £655,000 for Maggie’s cancer support centres, including the Lanarkshire centre at Monklands Hospital. This year alone saw 80 participants take part, with castle owner Steve Timoney and supporter Lord Iain Bonomy waving the cars off in style. A vintage Tunnock’s van even joined the line-up at the start!
Organiser Sandy Wilkie MBE summed it up: ““It’s important that we say 215,000 thank-yous to everyone who donated, volunteered and supported this event. The money raised for such a special charity is truly significant. Drive to Maggie’s has grown every year with new routes and experiences, but the loyalty and commitment of those who have supported it from the very beginning has been remarkable. To have raised more than £650,000 in just three editions is far beyond what we imagined when we started.”
👏 What an amazing journey for a truly special cause. Were you there to see the cars set off?
