We were concerned and more than annoyed to see the long established children’s playwark in Springwell removed recently.
Blantyre has few places left for children to play safely outdoors, so to see the Council remove the last few pieces of play equipment was disheartening. Local councillors and residents were not informed that the Council had planned these actions and an inquiry has been made by Councillors to try to find out what happened.
Springwell needs a playpark and it is not sufficient for a council statement to be issued asking residents to use Stonefield or Kirkton Park, quite some distance away.
In a statement online, Cllr Razzaq who is looking into the matter added, “The full reinstatement of the play equipment is the required outcome. While I fully recognise there have been issues of vandalism in the playpark — which is entirely unacceptable — the actions of a few should not impact the entire community.”
“For the safety and well-being of local children, and given that this is the only playpark in Springwell, I will be seeking a swift resolution, with full reinstatement of the play equipment being the outcome required.”
Have your say. What should be done about this?
