More accessible parking is on the way for residents across South Lanarkshire, with dozens of additional parking spaces being designated exclusively for Blue Badge holders.
South Lanarkshire Council has approved new regulated disabled parking bays across several communities, including Blantyre, Hamilton, Cambuslang, Bothwell, East Kilbride, Larkhall, Lanark and Rutherglen.
In Blantyre, the new locations include Boswell Drive, Harkins Avenue and Glenfruin Road, while neighbouring Bothwell will see a new bay on Lomond Drive.
The changes are intended to make everyday life a little easier for people with disabilities or mobility difficulties, particularly those who struggle to find suitable parking close to their homes.
The new restrictions will come into force on 30 November and 7 December 2026, depending on the location.
Importantly, these regulated spaces are not reserved for individual residents. Any motorist displaying a valid Blue Badge can use them, and parking restrictions can be enforced against vehicles without one.
Residents who hold a Blue Badge and regularly struggle to park near their homes can also apply to South Lanarkshire Council for a designated parking bay, subject to eligibility and a suitable location.
