More Disabled Parking Spaces

Blantyre is set to benefit from new regulated parking bays for disabled drivers, as part of a wider South Lanarkshire Council proposal. Spaces exclusively for blue badge holders are planned for Melrose Place and Small Crescent, while High Blantyre Road will also see new provision.

The move comes under a proposed traffic regulation order that would introduce additional accessible bays across the region. Nearby towns are also included in the plans, with Cambuslang (Cairns Avenue), East Kilbride (including Anniversary Avenue, Ash Avenue and Blenheim Avenue), and Hamilton (Burnblea Street and Dee Terrace) set to gain new spaces.

In Carnwath, bays are earmarked for Couthally Gardens and Lockhart Place, while Larkhall’s proposed sites include Covenant Crescent and Drygate Street. Rutherglen would see new bays in Airlie Gardens, Bullionslaw Drive and other locations.

The council says the aim is to make it easier for disabled drivers to park close to homes, shops and services.
